  41.      Methyltestosterone should be stored at room temperature in a tightly
  42. closed container.

  44. USES
  45.  
  46.      This medication is a synthetic androgen (male hormone) that is used to
  47. treat conditions such as delayed puberty, eunuchism, or impotence in males
  48. whose bodies cannot produce enough testosterone on their own.  The medication
  49. may be used to treat breast cancer in women whose breast tumor responds to
  50. hormone treatment.

  52. TREATMENT
  53.  
  54.      In order to avoid stomach irritation, you can take methyltestosterone
  55. oral tablets or capsules with food or with a full glass of water or milk
  56. (unless your doctor directs you to do otherwise).
  57.      The buccal tablet form of methyltestosterone is meant to be absorbed
  58. through the lining of the mouth, rather than swallowed.  The tablet should be
  59. placed between your gum and cheek and allowed to dissolve slowly.  Do not eat,
  60. drink, chew, or smoke while the tablet is dissolving.
  61.      If you miss a dose of this medication, take the missed dose as soon as
  62. possible, unless it is almost time for the next dose.  In that case, do not
  63. take the missed dose at all; just return to your regular dosing schedule.  Do
  64. not double the next dose of the medication.

  66. SIDE EFFECTS
  67.  
  68.      Minor.
  69.  
  70.      Decrease or increase in sexual desire, diarrhea, headache, loss of
  71. appetite, nausea, stomach irritation, sleeping difficulties, or vomiting.
  72. These side effects should disappear as your body adjusts to the medication.
  73.  
  74.      Major.
  75.  
  76.      Tell your doctor about any side effects that are persistent or
  77. particularly bothersome.  IT IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR about
  78. acne; black, bloody, or tarry stools; breast enlargement or tenderness;
  79. flushing; frequent or continuous erection; hair loss or growth; hoarseness or
  80. deepening of the voice; increased urination; shortness of breath; skin rash;
  81. swelling of the hands or feet; sore throat; tiredness; unusual bleeding or
  82. bruising; or yellowing of the eyes or skin.

  84. INTERACTIONS
  85.  
  86.      Methyltestosterone interacts with several other types of medications:
  87.      1. It can increase the effects of oral anticoagulants (blood thinners,
  88. such as warfarin), which can lead to bleeding complications.
  89.      2. Diabetic patients should know that methyltestosterone can lower blood
  90. sugar levels.  The dosage of oral antidiabetic medication or insulin may,
  91. therefore, require adjustment when this medication is being taken.
  92.      3. Concurrent use of methyltestosterone and adrenocorticosteroids
  93. (cortisone-like medications) can lead to fluid retention.
  94.      Before starting to take methyltestosterone, BE SURE TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR
  95. about any medications you are currently taking, especially any of those listed
  96. above.

  98. WARNINGS
  99.  
  100.      * Tell your doctor about unusual or allergic reactions you have had to
  101. any medications, especially to methyltestosterone or to any other androgen
  102. (such as fluoxymesterone or testosterone).
  103.      * Before starting to take this medication, be sure to tell your doctor if
  104. you now have or if you have ever had breast cancer, fluid retention, heart
  105. disease, hypercalcemia (high blood calcium levels), kidney disease, liver
  106. disease, or prostate disorders.
  107.      * Although androgens have been used by athletes to increase muscle
  108. strength, there is no conclusive evidence that these drugs increase athletic
  109. performance.  There is also some question as to their safety.
  110.      * High-dose methyltestosterone therapy may cause infertility in males.
  111.      * Some of these products contain the color additive FD&C Yellow No. 5
  112. (tartrazine), which can cause allergic-type reactions (fainting, rash,
  113. shortness of breath) in certain susceptible individuals.
  114.      * Be sure to tell your doctor if you are pregnant.  If methyltestosterone
  115. is taken by a pregnant woman, it can cause masculine characteristics in the
  116. developing fetus, such as increased body hair.  (Note:  This does NOT affect
  117. the sex of the fetus, which is determined at conception.)  Also, tell your
  118. doctor if you are breast-feeding an infant.  Methyltestosterone passes into
  119. breast milk and can cause masculinization of the nursing infant.
